Skin Care: Keep It Simple, Keep It Safe

For the past 20 some years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with thousands upon thousands of faces and bodies as an Esthetician and Cosmetologist. It has been such an incredible journey getting to know my clients throughout the years and caring for their skin care needs.

My philosophy for skin is to keep it simple and keep it safe. Whether it be a treatment or a product, it is important to maintain the health of the skin while being mindful of ingredients and our environment. I take a holistic approach and try to understand the person as a whole to determine the best product or treatment.

Along the way, both professionally and personally, I’ve picked up so many tips, tricks and healthy solutions that I figured it was about time to share the wealth. Voila, a blog was born! Comfortable in Your Own Skin will be my way of touching lives online rather than being in the privacy of a treatment room.  My goal is to provide you with answers when you have questions, concerns, worries about wrinkles or anything related to skin care.

To get started here is a simple solution for softening lines: Try using wrinkle-reducing adhesive strips while you sleep or while working at home (alone). Yes, you do look a bit like a Star Trek character, but trust me, it works. If you have sensitive skin, add a bit of moisturizer to the areas before you apply the strips. The two-fold benefit of the strips are light exfoliation (when you pull them off), and they restrict the movement of your face which will reduce the breakdown of collagen and elastin.

I look forward to staying in touch,

Shelley

  1. Great little tip Shelley. I had no idea that such strips existed. I have a related question. I tend to get wrinkles on my chest, right below my neck, because I sleep on the side in a sort of fetal position. Are there strips for that area of the body?

    1. Dear Simona, Thank you for your question! So far, there isn’t a specific body tape, however you may try use packing tape, e.g., Scotch brand that you would use to seal a box. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s pretty gentle and more forgiving than the Gaffer’s tape that Kim Kardashian uses as her ‘boob tape’. If you absolutely must sleep on your side, I suggest buying a full-size body pillow which will give you support to your arms and legs, which in turn may help keep your chest from completely squishing downwards. The best way to avoid wrinkles (the result of breakdown of collagen and elastin) is to train yourself to sleep on your back. You may use the body pillow under your knees and use the excess to wrap up towards your body or double it up to elevate your legs. It can take up to a year to train yourself, but it is worth it. Gravity and compression isn’t our friend when it comes to wrinkles. Additionally, using a product with EGF’s (epidermal growth factors) or a retinoid (Vitamin A) can assist topically to encourage cell growth, our Mighty Infusion has EGF’s. Cheers!
